Chinese ink and a watercolour

After my trip to the British Museum to see the Chinese ink exhibition, you all know I was inspired to try some inks.
I've continued practising - and part of the practice was "to be at one" with the subject and to try to capture its essence.
That has taken a bit of working on. You can see from these photos how I progressed.

Then I tried capturing the essence of one of my flowers from a previous post.
This is the lisianthus.
Painted on fabriano hot press.
I'm also trying out some new papers.

Did you know I like to experiment? :)

Do you think I've captured the essence of this flower?

  2. I'm certainly going to do more, Ann.
I am thinking of making a combination painting, of ink techniques and something more realistic. Watch this space!

  16. Fabulous composition, detail and washes on your flower painting. That chinese ink work looks pretty tricky to me. I bet you need lots of control.

  17. Hello Pat:) I know, I'm a little late. I like your bamboo very much, especially the third with the bamboo on the background.
